Halfway There

Sometimes finding God in the details of our lives feels like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The Israelites were being led by a man who was basically "tuned" into God. Moses not only had his staff but a radar to boot. He seemed to understand that the voice he heard came from God and that he was supposed to follow the cloud during the day and the fire at night.

I'm sure some of the Israelites looked at Moses and thought he had gone completely mad. What in the world was he doing dragging them all over the desert? Never-the-less they followed. They trusted Moses but did they trust God? Not really - after Moses left to go up Mt. Sinai the people were okay for a while but as time passed they began to panic. After many more sunsets and sunrises, the people believed that Moses would not return so they took matters in their own hands. They took the precious gold they had looted from the Egyptians and melted it down to form a golden calf. That would be their god! They would bow down and worship that! How in the world would the golden calf lead them out of the desert?

You see - they couldn't find God in a haystack even if they tried - because they really didn't know him. They knew of him, they had heard stories of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob but they really didn't know him. God was trying to reveal himself to them through their trials and suffering in the desert. God was trying to teach them about who He was. Moses could find God because he knew God and had a personal relationship with God. He spoke to God - God spoke to him.

If you really want to start finding God in the details then start finding God. You cannot find someone you don’t know anything about. Imagine one of your children getting lost in a massive crowd. What would you do? You would rush and push your way through the crowd calling out their name frantically searching, seeking, and capturing every detail. And I do believe that if you stumbled upon them they would not be passed by or go unnoticed. You know everything about them; their facial expressions, color of their skin, hair, and clothing – yes – every detail. Imagine what your life would be like if you had that kind of relationship with God? Though we cannot physically see him we can come to see his heart, his word, his humor, his character, his abilities, his strengths, his miracles, and his love in ways we never thought possible.

If you are going to church – you’re halfway there.

If you are in the Word – you’re halfway there.

If you are praying – you’re halfway there.

If you talk to God on a regular basis – you’re halfway there.

Now – start looking for him – searching for him – seeking him – he is always working in our lives and always in the details of our life.
