What's in the Bottom of Your Laundry Basket?

There’s a passage in Job that says:

“Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning. You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety. You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid, and many will court your favor.” (Job 11:17-19)

I tend to lose things. Sometimes I run through the house searching through drawers and under beds, while at other times I take my time believing it will show up on its own. Running through the house like a maniac didn’t help much because I ran right past the very item I was looking for and most of the time the lost item didn’t show up on its own.

When my children were little, each one had a favorite toy. Everywhere their little feet pranced and hands roamed, the toy followed. They slept and ate with it. Wherever they went, the toy went too. And oh what a dark day it was when the toy went missing. Moms, you understand, as many of you are living with children attached to binkies and blankets.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found my child's favorite toy in the bottom of the laundry basket or hidden between the couch cushions. I have been known to spend hours searching, seeking, and working to find that one item that brought them some sense of peace and comfort.

When hope is lost in the bottom of the basket, it might be time to dig through, reach in, and grab hold of it once more.
Job says, “You will look about you and find your rest in safety. You will be secure because there is hope.” Look around you - what do you see?

My friend, if you have lost hope, perhaps it’s time to start searching. The secret to finding hope, is knowing where to look. Our hope comes from the Lord, from the maker of heaven and earth. He is the only one who gives hope. We can search through our houses until the sky turns black, but hope will not come. We can sit in dark defeated rooms thinking it might show up – or not. Sometimes God does bring us those miraculous moments. In our deepest despair, God sees and suddenly there is a knock at the door or a phone call. Hope is pushing through.

But for those living day to day without hope, let me encourage you to get up and start your search.

Hope comes from our intimacy with the Lord. Are you spending time with Him?

Hope comes when we come to understand who God is. Are you reading about Him?

Hope comes when we turn to God rather than the world. Are you praying? In the middle of your needs are you turning to God?
Hope comes in trusting God will take care of us and believing He will follow through with what He says He will do: “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Even on days we do feel weary and faint, God will be there to hold us. Yes – today my friend, when you find hope, “Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning.”

Don't Just Sit There - Start Searching - I promise you won't have to look far.
